Canciones folkloricas de guatemala

My beautiful guatemala (lyrics and author)
The presentation of the Rabinal Achí dance, or Tun dance, can also be appreciated through different acts that recreate it in theaters in Guatemala City, so you already have where to go to soak up the folklore. This is a true spectacle of the Chapina culture that will surprise you.
If you were looking for different and outstanding dances from Guatemala, the Palo Volador dance is probably the one you are most interested in knowing. Its concept relates a legend from the sacred book of the K'iche' Maya, the Popol Vuh, in which the ritual of the "Sacred Fire" is practiced.
To represent this story, the dancers, dressed as monkeys, are hung with ribbons on the top of a giant tree trunk. The dancers move to the rhythm of the marimba as they climb the tree. Around the trunk, spectators also take advantage of the performance to dance and enjoy this local tradition. The Palo Volador dance is something that must be seen to be believed!

The traditional Mexican marimba comes from Chiapas and Guatemala, and has its origin in instruments introduced by black slaves at the time of the conquest, although it is difficult to define its origin, because the traditions of the three places are very intermingled. In essence, it differs a little from the concert marimba in the tuning, which in general is not so precise; besides the exterior aspect is ornamented with wood only and the resonators that end in the form of a prism, have a piece of rubber that vibrates when the keys are struck. Its tessitura and dimensions are very variable.
The first modification was in 1701 when the keys were increased to 17, and tecomate resonators, also called pumpos, were added. The instrument is played standing up, holding them with two rods tied to the waist and a strap hanging from the neck.
